ABOUT ME

Hi my name is

DJ DAN MATTHEWS,

Thanks for visiting my web page, let me tell you a bit about myself…

My road as a DJ using blended mixes and production started back in the 90’s. Having experience in wedding & special event audio / visual I became fascinated with making people dance and enjoy themselves. This began both a obsession and love affair with funky house, dirty electro, top 40 re-mixes, vocally trance and even a bit of hip hop.

I like to tell a story through my music. Through a moody roller coaster of tracks, a theme, or tracks that make people energized. I love, DJing, producing, and running sound / video and lighting for big events.

A major breakthrough in my sound happened while working in radio. While programming radio and researching what people expected while listening to music I realized the psychology behind the music that people love. I gained further knowledge on audiences through practical application and theory while studying Radio/ TV/ Film. Most DJ’s have no idea what the audience wants, they simply don’t get it.

Another break through occurred when I started working for the biggest nightclub in San Francisco. 1015 Folsom has 5 rooms of state of the art sound, video, and lighting. Things constantly change and I find myself fixing thing on the fly for for DJs quite often... I realized while working with top name DJs (Blank & Jones, Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyke, Thrillseekers, Rank 1, ATB, Deep Dish, Above and Beyond, Gabriel & Dresden, 4 strings, Filo & Peri, Cosmic Gate, Darude, etc…) several lessons that I feel made me a better DJ. Running big event sound, lighting, and video I paint a visual canvas (almost like DJing while listening to the DJ) of the music they play and get a wide range of influences from different, genres, countries and backgrounds

People think that being a DJ is glamorous or is some special talent that was imparted by the Greek gods. The truth is anyone can DJ. The hard work, and dedication, weeds out the few that make it big time. Most Djs are listening to music at high levels for extended periods of time which is harmful to their hearing, They must entertain and motivate a audience to participate and offer something original that the countless others don’t have. They have to deal with people at there worst, high, drunk, or the annoying (can I make a request or you should do this…). The music and the equipment a DJ must know really well or something will go wrong and people will be pissed. When their friends are relaxing or out enjoying themselves the DJ is working. Their paycheck goes to DJ equipment & music. Countless hrs are spent listening to tracks and testing how they go together and producing or re-mixing original content which gives them notoriety.

I love what I do and I am actively available for parties, special events, or whatever you had in mind, shoot me a email and will make it happen!
